Cambridge Who’s Who member Richard R. Humphreys, Jr. is the inventor of Humps Pokerthrow, a successful departure from the popular game, Cornhole. Mr. Humphreys takes the basic concepts of the 14th century German pastime and applies them to the game of poker. Unlike poker, this game is developed for individuals of all ages.
Instead of a horizontal board with a hole at the center of it, the Humps Pokerthrow setup consists of a vertical board – like an art easel, as Richard described it – with slots representing different card values. “Throw your best hand,” Pokerthrow’s slogan beckons. The objective of the game is to reach 21 points by beating your opponent’s hand (as outlined by the traditional rules of poker) in a series of matches.
In Delaware, Ohio, Humps Pokerthrow has begun to take over local bars and pubs, and “poker” tournaments are becoming increasingly frequent. “My short-term goal is to see Humps Pokerthrow played all over the world,” noted an ambitious Richard. “My long-term goal is to provide more games, educational games.”
For now, Richard is busy implementing marketing and advertising initiatives for Humps Pokerthrow. “Your kids will love it, your mom will love it, your dad will love it, your grandma will love it. Maybe your dogs will love it—they can fetch the bags,” he smiled. “It’s a new, exciting game.”
