Meet Betty Turner, the agricultural industry’s first female grain inspector. Employed by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for 34 years, she set a course for other women to follow as she worked closely with various agencies and inspection departments, as well as the USDA, shipping agents and stevedores, who readied ships for grain export. She enjoyed the challenges that arose due to economics, the weather and politics.
