Deb Scott Reveals Secrets to Finding Happiness through Heartache in "The Sky is Green and The Grass is Blue"

To Deb Scott, author, entrepreneur and motivational speaker, happiness is not something that just happens to a few people and eludes the rest. It is not winning the life lottery, but is actually more akin to the prize in a treasure hunt, which is often a search conducted under adverse conditions. A survivor of numerous trials, Ms. Scott shares her experiences through "The Sky is Green and the Grass is Blue: Turning your upside down world right side up!," a veritable "how to be happy" book for people who have suffered tragedy in their lives or who simply have the tragic tendency to get in their own way. In an interview with Cambridge Who's Who, she shared that finding happiness begins with looking at life's ups and downs from a different standpoint. "The stuff that you don't want in your life, the stuff that you pray, 'Dear God, I wish this would just go away' - I promise you, these are going to be the very same things that [you will be] so grateful happened to you because...they will make you into the real, freeing, happy person that you want to be," she said. "I believe that we are all diamonds in the rough."

Ms. Scott knows a thing or two about locating the jewel among the debris. Devastated in 2005 by the death of her mother Rachel, who was also her best friend, she found herself alone in an attic sorting through her mother's belongings. Finding a trove of rare vintage dresses, retro clothing from the 1950s and 1940s, costume jewelry and other accessories - most of them kept in beautiful condition or completely unused - she decided to market them through Rachel Girl, an online store (www.alittlebitofrachel.com). More than finding good homes for her mother's treasures, Rachel Girl enabled Ms. Scott to share her mom's "fashion passion" with like-minded women and keep her memory alive by passing on the things that she enjoyed the most.

Since coming out with "The Sky is Green and the Grass is Blue..." in early 2010, Ms. Scott has earned comparisons to Wayne Dyer and Tony Robbins and garnered praise for such infectiously positive life lessons as, "Remember, we can't unscramble the scrambled eggs. But we can come up with delightful new recipes to serve and enjoy them" and, "[Happiness] is available for everyone - more like a radio station. We need to tune in to the frequency." The book was recently declared a finalist in the Motivational Category of the 2010 Next Generation Indie Book Awards and was featured in a catalog that was distributed at Book Expo America in New York City this month.
