(Brief bio)

“Been there, done that and got the tee shirt” describes Helen well. After more than 30 years in the classroom, teaching both elementary grades and later graduate courses, Helen retired in 2003 and began a second career as a national spokesperson and teacher trainer for the Love and Logic® Institute. Training parents and teachers in the Love and Logic program as well as ADHD education has taken her from Indian reservations in North Dakota to Brazil.
“As the mother of 2 wonderful, yet very different sons, I learned what parenting was really all about when my younger son was diagnosed with ADHD in1989. Normal parenting and teaching techniques just didn’t work for him. Very little was known about the disorder then. Misinformation abounded and unfortunately the same ignorance and misinformation still is believed by many today.”
Helen has been a member of CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder) since 1990. She opened the first CHADD group in Southeastern NC in 2007. She continues to do teacher and parent education as well as teach a course, “ ADHD and Other Unseen Disabilities” at a local college.
