And, can we test for those charaeristics?

I would be interested in knowing if you can test for the characteristics of a great leader.
What type of questions would be on such a test, if it exisited?
Well you have IQ test, test for memory, and even test for other abilities. It would make sense that a test could be derived for the characteristics of leadership. Like a hidden talent.
I'll bet it would be helpful if there were a test for leadership. I have a feeling that people who are natural leaders know that they have the gift for it, so maybe the test wouldn't be necessary for some people.
It is possible that the talents are hidden, though and they might only show up in situations when you need leadership skills.
Good point Deanie, sometimes it takes those situations to find the true leader, and also the person who steps up and leads and with success may just surprise you.
Yes, I think sometimes we're surprised by the person who responds to a stressful situation and shows that he/she is a leader. I don' t imagine anyone would argue that leaders need courage, intellect, as well as a determination to succeed.
In the last session of The Apprentice, everyone was writing off the leader of the womens' group and she was the first to be sent home. But, surprise, "The Doanld" himself said,
"I think she is a leader and I am going to hire her for a job".
The lady was simply working with her group attempting to incorporate the ideas of others to reach a consensus. It was not a dictatorship.
Donald Trump is most definitely a leader and not influenced by the opinions and judgments of others!
I would say an applause for Donald Trump, and I would also like to add that a leader is not influenced by the opinions and judgments of others, but incorporates them successfully and makes the judgment on his own.
Claire, I too enjoyed that segment of the Apprentice. I agree and disagree with you about Mr. Trump. He is influenced by by the opinions and judgments of others, because he does take into consideration the voices surrounding him, that is why he has his son and daughter on the show. I agree with you in that; he allows those opinions to become a consensus of the events, not the particular situation to dictate his final decisions. He is a great leader that looks for character, accountability, and responsibility as his measures for decision making.

Fred
Thoughtful distinction.
I would have to agree. I would also add that whether a person is a leader or not, courage, intellect along with the determination to succeed should be a quality for everyone to survive this thing called life.
I think that truly great leaders posess an inner stregnth that helps them keep going even when the going is tough. Does everyone have this inner stregnth? I'm not so sure. I think some of it has to do with motivation - internal or otherwise. I'd be interested in hearing other thoughts on this.
