Hello Cambridge Who’s Who Members:

I recently started a website for Pets & Pet Lovers called petchatty.com

PetChatty.com is the social network for pets! Now your special friend can be logged into their very own account – to a place where they can meet other pets, share photos and post their thoughts – all right on Pet Chatty.

Pet owners are welcome to set up accounts for as many pets as they like, help them share their latest triumphs and tragedies, read the latest pet news, and even shop for the hottest pet products – right on our site, using the product search tool at the top of our homepage.

Please have a look and let me know your thoughts.

CHEERS!

All our animals are family and companion therapists in our daily advocacy of saving families in pain and for our newest mental health and addiction rehab effort - OnlineRehabClinic.com. We enjoy our Friesian Horse Companions and support Fine Feathered Friends - a parrot rescue effort in Wisconsin.

If you're in CT, join us on August 21. Here's the press release:

Volunteering: An Inspired Endeavor

The Queenie Foundation, a humane education organization in Manchester, CT announces its 15th annual International Homeless Animals’ Day, Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Hubbard Green, Hubbard Street, in Glastonbury from 3 pm – 7:30 pm.
You can find your new best friend at the pre-adoption Meet ‘n Greet, shop at animal oriented vendors’ booths, learn about ways to assist animals and have great food. We will honor people who tirelessly spend their time in service to animals to protect, save and find them new homes.

“We always hope that the public will connect with the animal rescue and advocacy community at this event to get involved and be active for animals,” said Enid Breakstone, Founder and Executive Director.

The organization is named after a puppy that Breakstone rescued in 1995 in Dallas, TX, where she was living at the time. Queenie is now 15 and spends her days snoozing on the couch and living up to her name.

The event will feature Collen Gedrich, from International Society for Animal Rights, the creator and international coordinator of this event, spectacular raffles, music provided by Tom Reiley and friends, delicious food from the Lion’s Den in Hartford, and an Interfaith Blessing of the Animals at 6:30.

Visit The Queenie Foundation at www.queeniefoundation.org or contact them at 860.649.4488, queeniefound@hotmail.com.

Well said, Leslie!

"I think if we listen to our bodies it will tell us we need to cut back on meat..."

Going a step further, I think if we listen to our hearts, minds and consciences they will tell us there is no reason to eat our fellow creatures, especially after subjecting them to horrific "living" conditions from birth and torturing them in unimaginable ways as we drag them to a horrifying death. Makes no sense, if you think about it.

For me, I couldn't live with myself if I ate what looks delicious on the plate but which I cannot help but see as a once intelligent, lively, loving animal that suffered unimaginable horrors to get there. If religion allows people to close their eyes to that in the name of a Higher Power, then that is a decision they have to make. But as Adam and Eve were vegans, I suggest that it was man, not God, who --- pardon the vernacular --- screwed everything up, both for themselves (dog-eat-dog describes much of the world today) and for the animals whose planet we share.

I myself have gone to many veggies and fruit, I do have chicken and sometimes fish, but as I got older my body just could digest the beef and pork anymore, I got very bad stomach problems everytime I ate it, I removed it from my diet and no longer have the pains, I think if we listen to our bodies it will tell us we need to cut back on meat, I know in the bible we had a list of things to eat at one time, almost all was fruits and veggies, just something to think about. ..Minister and Author Susie Moll

And thank you for your reply, Enid, which I was hoping someone would make. (I have a bumper sticker on my fridge that asks the question you pose: "Why do we call some animals pets and other animals dinner?" If anyone wants to say, "Because they're different types of animals," I suggest visiting China, where dogs are a very populat entree.)

In response to Leslie's question: Just curious as to how many of the group's members have taken their love for animals to its logical conclusion --- for some reason the majority do not, despite recognizing the intelligence, sensitivity and outright humanity of their own pets --- and become vegan, or at least vegetarian?

Thank you for your question. I've been vegan since 1996. Why do we call some animals our companion and others our dinner? Everyone needs to answer that for themselves.

Living a vegan lifestyle protects animals (obviously), the environment/planet and doesn't use resources that we need to feed people instead of animals who end up on our plates. Consider this: the amount of water it takes to raise a steer could float a battleship.
